Graduate uses digital prowess to enhance business marketing strategy
A University of Wolverhampton graduate used his digital prowess to enhance the marketing strategy for a local business recently – and his efforts turned up the heat for their operations.
Junaid Shafiq, 25 from Wolverhampton, who graduated with a Business Management degree from the University’s Wolverhampton Business School, worked alongside the Managing Director of Ecolec, Chandru Ray, as part of the University’s Environmental Technologies & Resource Efficiency Support Service Environmental Technologies & Resource Efficiency Support Service (EnTRESS) project.
Ecolec radiators produce heating systems for the home as well as for commercial applications and the Managing Director approached EnTRESS to ask for digital marketing support and guidance to further grow his business. Working alongside Hajrija Dergic, Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the University’s Business School, Chandru discussed the potential marketing opportunities that he would be keen to take advantage of to enhance his business operations.
Junaid met with the business over a two-week period, where he worked both remotely and in the office with Chandru. His role included reviewing the marketing analytics, website, competitors and social media presence. Junaid also provided comprehensive market research and consultancy support to Ecolec whilst also delivering a coherent presentation to help guide the business.
Junaid said: “This was a really great opportunity for me to work with Ecolec after recently graduating from the University.
“Not only did I get the chance to work with this innovative local business, but I also had the opportunity to learn from Chandru and improve my own marketing skills to help build their online presence. Overall, I would recommend anyone going into a marketing career to use opportunities such as working with small businesses to further enhance your skills and make a real impact.”
Chandru said: “Junaid has provided a fantastic marketing analytics review for our business and shared some great tools with us which we plan to use to further develop our marketing efforts.”

EnTRESS supports Black Country and Stoke & Staffordshire small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on the adoption of environmental technologies and resource efficiency processes. All activities are fully-funded and the project is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund to promote sustainable economic growth.
